How lessons work

The first few years of high school can be overwhelming, and if you're closer to senior school, it can feel like the workload keeps getting heavier. I'm here to help ease the burden by taking responsibility for your progress and helping you maximise your marks.

We begin each lesson by discussing the topic or text you're studying in school and how well you've understood the content. I'll answer any questions you have and fill in gaps in your knowledge. Then I'll set tasks designed to improve your skills in that topic and begin preparing for any assessment coming up. I'll help you learn how to organise your schedule and properly pace your study and homework. When we have time between assessments, we work on general English skills, such as thesis writing, essay writing, comprehension, literary and poetic technique analysis, film technique analysis, creative skills, persuasive and discursive skills.

In the weeks before major exams, we turn from content work to exam practice. I conduct fully-timed practice exams which allow my students to work on exam skills in a safe environment, with lots of feedback, before heading into the actual exam.

Feedback outside of lessons

I am always happy to help students between lessons, either by marking your work or answering questions, depending on my availability. If I feel the questions are too complicated for a quick response, I will recommend booking an extra lesson.

Texts and assessments

Every school sets different texts and assessments. I will be able to guide you and provide resources on anything you're studying, from Shakespeare to modern texts, novels, poetry, short stories, plays and films. I have also helped students put together A-range projects ranging from essays and creative pieces to speeches, multimodals and videos. And of course we will be honing exam skills throughout the year to make sure you're ready for all exams.

Pricing & lesson types

I recommend a one-to-one 1.5 hour lesson for students in Year 7-10 per week, but I also offer group lessons and 1 hour spots if you prefer. I only charge week-to-week and we can start lessons on a no-obligation basis to make sure you're happy with how everything is going before continuing. Contact me now to get a free consultation and discuss fees, which start as low as $50 per hour but can vary depending on lesson type and availability. Spots are limited, so please reach out to see if I can fit you in.
